Chicago Jazzfest-Day 3

The 2026 Chicago Jazz Festival continued its four day run on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The third day’s highlight was the Miles Electric Band, an assemblage featuring some of Chicago’s top jazz musicians. Its purpose: To pay tribute to trumpet master Miles Davis and the music he produced during his electric period. Here are my thoughts about and images from Day 3 of the festival.

Chicago Jazzfest (I)

The 2022 Chicago Jazzfest kicked off on Thursday September 1, with a diverse lineup that included Henry Threadgill’s Zooid, Mike Allemana’s Vonology, a group of terrific high school students, bassist Marlene Rosenberg’s Quartet, the Toyoaki Ensemble, some great soul jazz from the early Eighties, and a group that played jazz classics from the early years of jazz. Here are my thoughts and observations on Day 1.

McCann

Tonight it was vocalist Tammy McCann and guitarist Mike Allemana.  As was true back in the Seventies, you might not think that the two musicians could keep it going for two one-hour sets, but you would be very wrong.  Like Ella and Pass, and Eldridge and Peterson, tonight's performers captivated their audience.
